Path from New World to Lost Ark: The Influencer Hype

Currently, about 59,000 Steam users play the online role-playing game NEW WORLD (13th place 13). That looked very different three months ago. After the launch, more than 900,000 buyers drove to the servers at peak times. There are no exact sales figures yet, but Amazon will surely have sold a seven-digit number of units — and Jeff Bezos evaluated the start as a success.

Reasons for the hype

Certainly, several reasons for the hype around New World can work out. Reason number 1: There have been no longer a large, ambitious online role-playing game that has been created in a western developer. Demand is great, the offer consists of games that have partly ten years and more on the hump. Reason number 2: New World was with the exciting setting, chic graphics and also thanks to the Amazon label in advance quite well — so that marketing and advertising by trailer and Co. are concerned.

An important reason was, however, that many great influences on New World crashed like highlighted mice on a piece of cheese. with there: Shroud, Mongol, Neutralize and many more. And of course, the streamer and YouTuber have brought parts of their community to Sternum. How blatantly has a PR support to affect the player's number of online games, we have seen in the summer / autumn 2021 in Final Fantasy 14.

Next hype title already in view

However, New World has (still?) Too many construction sites to be able to keep the big player mass for a long time, but also most of the streamer in mood. Hype around the launch is hardly anything left, and the gaze goes a future to track the next potential hit and tension in front of the hype train.

In fact, we do not have to go to the future so far in order to encounter an exciting candidate. Finally, with Lost Ark on February 11, 2022 (08 February for Pioneer Package Owners), an action role-playing game, which was already in Korea and Russia a success story could and that in the Closed-beta in front of a few Months also left a very good impression in Europe and North America.

AMMONOID over Lost Ark

Of course, the latter has not only determined, but also one or the other Influencer, who wants to play Lost Ark definitely to the launch. In an interview with Desert, the already mentioned Mongol explained, for example, that he is very pleased with the Action RPG with MMO-Vibes. The game has a lot of potential, and it was very unusual that Lost Ark has developed so positively after the respective launches in Korea and Russia. Usually it is more of the other way around: Initially, there's a hype and then play the game numbers continuously.

However, a sticking point could be that Lost Ark has an isometric perspective as Diablo and Co. Fans Western online role-playing games will need to arrange themselves. In addition, an In game shop can always be a problem with a Free2Play payment system, namely, as soon as Pay2Win elements are involved. If that's the case, Mongol continues, Lost Ark will not last long in the West.

AMMONOID OVER NEW WORLD

With New World Mongol has now completed. The game is boring and repetitive, and the developers have built their features loud features that simply waste the time of players, but no positive added value. You just spend too much time running A to B, with the farming of things or with the glow of the ever-same opponents, just to get to the targeted goal at some point.

The situation is tightened, as AMMONOID, because the players already feel the skills of New World. More and more people listen to, the servers are empty, you barely find groups. This then finish even more the game, which starts a vicious circle that can hardly be stopped.

What about it: Are you looking forward to Lost Ark? Do you think that the Action-RPG can build a comparable hype thanks to the Influencer like New World? Incidentally, the developers of Lost Ark assume that to launch the 200,000 players at the same time on EU and US servers. That would be significantly less than the New World Peak with 913,634 simultaneous users.
