How is Lost Ark Keeded?

How exactly do these counterattacks work in Lost Ark? Basically, you can block a certain boss attack then with your counter capability when the boss starts to light up. This means that the boss will soon be performing a particularly heavy attack that he has to recharge. So you remain a small time window to counter the attack.
